Rotherham Food Centre
The Ministry of Food Centre in Rotherham is the starting point for Jamie’s campaign.
It’s somewhere for local people to go to learn the basics of cooking and get friendly advice on recipes, ingredients shopping, nutrition, equipment, local and seasonal food, and how to make good simple meals on a tight budget.
Every lunchtime there are cookery demonstrations, hosted by the two lovely ladies who run the show, Lisa Taylor and Jane Pond, or one of their team of great volunteers.
The Centre is now signing up people for cooking classes using simple Ministry of Food recipes. There are three slots every day, and they’re open to anyone, individuals and community groups, who want to learn the basics: chopping, frying, roasting and baking.
The local team of Health Trainers are also based at the Centre and are there to offer help and information about things like giving up smoking, taking more exercise and dealing with stress.
